I had similar question from of the management team who is working on providing solution with VDI. I offered him help and suggested him to with VDI blindfolded. I shared the same experience which you have discussed. When I was trying to do some research I came across nice solution from the company called “VISTORM”. This company offer combine solution with VDI and Citrix. I found it very interesting. www.vistorm.com/uplds/microsoft_desktop_and_application_delivery.pdf . Then I came across another article about Microsoft VDI solution and licensing http://www.mikedipetrillo.com/mikedvirtualization/2008/12/microsoft-lies-to-their-customers-again.html

Very interesting - thanks for the post.

Disclaimer: I work for Ericom Software and we provide a combined VDI and TS solution called PowerTerm WebConnect.

It may be worthwhile for you to check out our solution because:

1. We support TS, VDI and blades in the same product, with the same admin and a single pool of licenses. This means you can put your applications wherever it makes the most sense.

2. We support published applications (seamless windows) from VDI and blades.

3. We support 15 types of hypervisors including VMware (with our without VirtualCenter), Hyper-V (with or without SCVMM), Xen and Parallels.
